Pop-Up at OVERLAP in Newport, RI

Since I stopped selling my work wholesale, I have been more playful in my glazing approach. I became a glaze-experimentor, combining my glazes in unpredictable ways.

I use the porcelain surface as a canvas. What happens on this canvas is a little bit of a surprise as I get into the flow of creating.

Each piece begins with mixing a batch of English porcelain slip (liquid clay). This slip is my own formula which I have perfected over the past twenty years. It is high-fire porcelain, which means that pieces are extremely durable while remaining thin.

I also formulate my glazes and have been enjoying overlapping colors with surprising results. As the glazes flow over the object, otherworldly sky, sea, and landscapes are revealed.

I am excited by the most recent glaze firing, called A Different Planet, which is on view at OVERLAP in Newport, RI from July 11th through August 23rd.

I will be celebrating the closing of the show on August 23rd, from 4-7 pm. Stop by to say hello at 112 VAN ZANDT AVE, NEWPORT RI, overlapnewport.com.
